The benefits of online yoga and meditation

Are you unsure whether an online Are you unsure whether an online yoga and meditation program is right for you? Perhaps you've been contemplating the pros and cons of joining an online class instead of attending one in person. This post is made for you! Here, I'll share a list of some of the advantages of online yoga and meditation.

1. 1. Do yoga anytime, anywhere

This can be beneficial if you're, e.g., working from home, have a busy schedule, or want to jump right into bed after a yogaclass.

2. You don't have to spend time on transportation to/from the studio

Therefore, it will also be easier to integrate yoga sessions into a busy everyday life. For many people, finding time to be physically active or time to unwind can be challenging. When the programs are online (and the videos are pre-recorded), you don't need to book yourself into a system weeks in advance or show up early. You can jump on the mat when you have time and energy.

3. Being able to do you in your own, safe space (and be able to press pause anytime) can be comforting for many

This is especially beneficial, if you want to create your own calming space. But it is also beneficial if you experience unpredictable pain/symptoms (e.g. from IBS or IBD). If you experience stress and/or anxiety, doing yoga from the comfort of your own space can also increase your experience of overall relaxation.

4. By joining a course you'll be able to dive into a specific theme/subject

Yoga, relaxation, and meditation can in itself lead to significant personal development. But perhaps you have the desire and need to delve deeply into a specific topic, such as digestive healing, and in this case, it can be beneficial to follow a program with a specific theme rather than individual classes.

5. Get personal guidance and support

In many online programs - including the ones I offer -you have the opportunity to contact the instructor during the course, ask questions, receive personal guidance, and support.

6. Deepen your practice

We all find ourselves at different stages in our practice. Whether you are new to yoga or have been practicing for many years, you have surely experienced comparing yourself to others in the yoga studio. It's completely natural and happens to all of us. But if it's something that weighs on you and feels like a frustrating distraction, it can be an advantage that, in an online course, you get to delve into your own practice - without being able to compare yourself to the person next to you.

7. It can be a nice, safe way to start your yoga journey

For some, starting their yoga journey in their own home can feel very safe.

8. Repetitions

An online course gives you the opportunity to repeat the classes / exercises as many times as you'd like. Perhaps a specific yoga class or a meditation had a special impact on you, that you'd like to experience again. Being able to repeat a class, sequence, or meditation can also create a state of 'flow' that feels incredible!

I would like to highlight that the choice between an online yoga class/course and a physical yoga class naturally depends on personal preferences, needs, and circumstances. Both options have their advantages and disadvantages, and this post highlights some of the benefits of online yoga and meditation. The list of benefits for in-person yoga classes is just as extensive! Therefore, tune in to what feels best for you. As with everything in life, sometimes you need to dive in and try it before you know what feels best. Maybe it's a combination – or perhaps you need something different at different times in your life.
