About

Welcome! I am Sofie

- yoga teacher and psychomotor therapy student

My philosophy

In both yoga and psychomotor therapy, the body and mind is treated as a unified whole – not as two separate entities. The body and mind are interconnected and influence each other.

Stress and anxiety can manifest in the body as muscle tension, chronic and acute pain, physical exhaustion, and sleep difficulties. Similarly, symptoms that initially manifest physically, such as pain, can lead to stress, anxiety, worries, and mental exhaustion. When we get to know our bodily and mental reactions, we can learn to listen to them with care and respond more appropriately. This is what is at the core of the programs, courses, and treatments I offer. So come and join the journey towards a more stress-free and balanced everyday life, where the body and mind don't work against each other but TOGETHER.

The most important thing to me when I teach is that you feel welcome, regardless of your level of experience (if any), age, injuries - and regardless of the energy-level and mood you're in from day to day. Yoga is for everyone, and you don't need to be spiritual to practice yoga, meditate, or unwind.

It's also important to me that you feel safe, and I would always love to hear about any injuries, reservations, pregnancy, or anything else that you feel like sharing.

My background

I have been practicing yoga for over eight years and have been teaching for the last 4 years. My yoga certifications include one in Hatha, Flow, and Heat wave yoga, and another in Yin yoga. I am currently in my 6th semester of my bachelor's degree in Psychomotor Therapy at Copenhagen University College, and by January 2025, I will be a fully qualified Psychomotor Therapist. This program is a health professional bachelor's degree that focuses on the interaction between body and mind. It includes courses in anatomy, physiology, pathology, as well as psychology and psychiatry. Furthermore, there is a strong emphasis on manual body / somatic therapy.

During my education, I have completed internships at a nursery, working with children's motor and psychological development, and at an activity center for the elderly, focusing on rehabilitation and health promotion. Additionally, I spent a semester at a college in California, USA, where I delved into subjects such as neurophysiology (structure and function of the nervous system), human communication, and sports nutrition.

I have recently completed my training as a Psychomotor Personal Trainer (PPT). In my work with clients on a one-on-one basis, I incorporate knowledge from my studies of the mind-body-connection, personal training, coaching, as well as therapy.

I have worked as a volunteer counselor at Headspace Denmark for 1.5 years, where I have engaged in conversations with young people and young adults on topics ranging from well-being, loneliness, and identity to abuse, illness, and much more. As a counselor, I have served as someone to talk to and have acted as a bridge to other resources.

Why a course focused on digestion and stress-relief?

I have struggled with digestive issues throughout my childhood and youth, so I know exactly how exhausting, frustrating, and stressful it can be to experience discomfort every day. I went through multiple diagnostic processes for many years, but eventually, I received a message that there was nothing to be done, 'perhaps just eat a little less fiber.' With that conclusion, years of testing came to an end. Since there were no (visibly) apparent causes for my digestive problems and stomach pains, I ended up trying every different treatment (such as various restrictive diets and over-the-counter medications) to relieve my symptoms.

That was until I discovered a book that told me everything I needed to hear: that your thoughts and emotions impact your gut health and digestion – and vice versa. Even though it's now becoming a relatively widespread understanding that the body and mind are interconnected, it was completely revolutionary for me to hear. Because when I thought about it, my stomach issues were always at their worst when I experienced stress and anxiety. I started working on my anxiety and simultaneously began practicing yoga. And this is where my journey towards a life without digestive issues truly began. I discovered a greater sense of calm and inner strength, and new ways to handle my challenges. I also realized that my frustration about digestive issues as well as my mindset ('my stomach doesn't work, and I just have a terrible digestion') was contributing to keeping me in the vicious cycle.

Now my mission is to provide others with the help and support that I wish I had had. Because whether you have a diagnosed condition or not, it is possible to achieve greater calm in the body and a well-regulated nervous system. It is possible to build a more loving and balanced relationship with your digestion. I will be here to support you on your journey - and I'm rooting for you!

It is important for me to mention that allergies, inflammation, and other diseases may underlie the digestive issues some people experience – and for some, various diets and medications may be effective. Consult with a doctor about what you are experiencing, so you can rule out any underlying causes.

I wish you all the best on your journey!
